Natural Deer Antlers for Dogs – A Long-Lasting Natural Chew

If you have a dog that loves to chew, finding something natural, long-lasting and satisfying can sometimes be a challenge.

Here at Kugae Gundogs, deer antlers have been a favourite with our own dogs for years, so we are pleased to have now added our 100% Natural Deer Antler Dog Chews to the Kugae range.

We use antlers with our adult dogs and also introduce them to our puppies as they grow. With a busy kennel of Labradors and Spaniels, we know only too well how useful it can be to give a young or active dog something appropriate to settle down with and chew.

What Are Deer Antler Dog Chews?

Our antler chews are made from real, naturally sourced deer antler.

Rather than being a manufactured chew designed to look identical from one piece to the next, these are a completely natural product. This means every antler is different.

Some are straight, some are curved and others may have one or more branches. The colour, thickness, shape, texture and weight will naturally vary too.

For us, that's part of their appeal.

Why Do Dogs Like Deer Antlers?

Chewing is a completely natural behaviour for dogs, and many dogs find it both enjoyable and satisfying.

This can be particularly noticeable with puppies, adolescent dogs and active working breeds such as Labradors and Spaniels. Giving them something appropriate to chew can help keep them occupied during quieter periods.

One of the reasons we have always liked deer antlers is their durability. Unlike many softer chews that can disappear surprisingly quickly, an appropriately sized antler can provide much longer-lasting interest.

There's also no need for artificial colours, flavours or complicated ingredients – it's simply natural deer antler.

The Same Natural Chew We Give Our Own Dogs

We don't like adding products to the Kugae range simply because they're popular.

Wherever possible, we want to sell products that we genuinely use or would be happy to use ourselves.

Our own dogs have enjoyed deer antlers for a long time, and we also introduce them to our puppies as they grow. That first-hand experience is one of the main reasons we decided to make them available through Kugae Gundogs.

What Size Deer Antler Should I Choose?

Because every antler is unique, we sell ours by approximate weight range rather than exact dimensions.

Our current sizes are:

Medium – approximately 30–100g
Large – approximately 130–220g
Extra Large – approximately 221–310g

Always choose an antler that is appropriate for the size of your dog and their chewing style.

For a larger or particularly enthusiastic chewer, we'd generally recommend choosing a larger piece rather than one that could potentially become small enough to swallow.

Remember that because these are natural products, the antler you receive won't necessarily look exactly like the one pictured. No two pieces are identical.

Are Deer Antlers Suitable for Every Dog?

No chew is right for every dog.

Deer antler is an extremely hard natural material, so it may not be appropriate for dogs with existing dental problems, damaged teeth or particularly aggressive chewing habits.

Dogs should always be supervised when they have an antler.

Regularly inspect the antler and remove it if it develops sharp edges, becomes damaged or gets small enough that your dog could attempt to swallow it.

If you are unsure whether an antler is suitable for your particular dog, we'd recommend seeking advice from your vet.

A Natural Choice for Active Dogs

Our dogs lead busy lives. Between training, exercise and working, there are also times when we want them to switch off, settle and relax.

A good chew can be useful during those quieter periods, particularly for younger dogs that always seem to be looking for their next activity!

We like deer antlers because they are simple, natural and long-lasting, without trying to make them something they're not.

And judging by our own dogs, they certainly get their approval.
